The King’s visit to Jersey in July was marked by intense but short-lived rain events that sent the crowds running for cover. The spectacular clouds produced rain intensities more often associated with the tropics than in Europe. Our visibility and present weather sensors on the island saw the visibility drop from over 40km to below 4km as the rain rate passed 100mm/hr in the worst of the downpours.
Monitoring these intense rain events in real-time is essential for aviation safety and can be used to warn of flash flooding risks. Biral’s thunderstorm detectors can even provide advanced warning of such events. To learn more about our products visit www.biral.com
